Healthy hair is something we all strive for
About two years ago, I promised myself to stop experimenting with my hair and grow it long and healthy. Since then, I’ve never stopped looking for the best hair treatments and natural boosters for my hair to grow. I have looked into many home remedies, and after trying a good bunch of them, I came up with my ultimate hair mask made from natural ingredients that are easy to find.
As we have been on the road for the last month, this mask has been like a treat every time I do it, as I really enjoy the process and am always happy with the result. I try to do this mask once every two weeks. If you have very fine hair, it might feel quite heavy, but it is perfect for someone like me with long thick hair that tends to get frizzy. I don’t use a hairdryer and only use a hair straightener on important occasions, so what you see in the video is the result of my hair drying naturally without any styling.
The ingredients for my ultimate hair treatment are:
– One big tablespoon of natural honey
– Two tablespoons of natural coconut mask or natural coconut milk
– One egg yolk
– Two tablespoons of burdock oil with red pepper
If you have short hair, you could get away with fewer ingredients.
I like to start from the roots and cover the length of my hair, making sure I pay proper attention to the ends. After all the product is evenly spread throughout my hair, I put a shower hat on and wait 20 minutes. Then, I thoroughly wash my hair in the shower using shampoo.
Use conditioner to seal your ends back up after shampooing
As a last step, I always apply my favourite hair conditioner, even after a hair treatment. While washing the mask off, any shampoo will open your hair follicles, so if you apply hair conditioner on the ends, it will help to seal them back up. Anti-Gravity Effect Volume Conditioner for fine hair, by L’Oréal Expert series, is my number one in the shower, always leaving my hair silky and under control.
The result of this treatment is – shiny, thick hair that is easy to manage. Let’s look closer as to why these ingredients are good for your hair.
Honey not only tastes good, but it is also a great hair care ingredient. The sticky sweet substance works as an emollient, which means it seals moisture in your hair.By reducing the breakage and strengthening the hair follicle, it helps to boost the hair growth naturally. Plus, it’s known to have great antiseptic qualities that prevent scalp infections, eczema, and dandruff.
Coconut oil is another great ingredient to boost your hair growth. It has important vitamins like niacin and folate, which will increase the circulation of blood in your scalp. Plus, coconut oil is rich in vitamin E, which is really hydrating and will keep your hair deeply conditioned.
I use an organic hair mask made of natural coconut milk from Lemongrass House that I’ve picked up in Thailand. I just like the consistency of it; it makes it easier to mix all the ingredients together. Any other natural coconut oil would be good to use and as beneficial.
Remember to separate the egg yolk
Egg yolk works as a natural emulsifier that will help you to achieve a smooth consistency in your mask. More importantly, eggs contain lecithin and protein, which help to strengthen the hair. Also, egg treatments for the hair are known to help relieve dandruff symptoms.
From bald spots to a full head of hair
If you have been following my @my_nomad_beauty_diary on Instagram, you know that I had quite a journey from bald patches and thin hair to what you see now — a head full of healthy and long hair. For that, I can’t thank natural burdock oil with red pepper enough, as I’ve been using it religiously. I stock up on this goodie every time I go to Russia, as it’s a very common beauty practice out there and you can buy it from any pharmacy. I like to add two spoons of oil into the treatment to nourish the hair follicles and strengthen the hair. The red pepper in it stimulates microcirculation of the scalp, which stimulates growth. It also helps the penetration of active ingredients of the oil to the hair roots.
Use the residue of the honey as a facial exfoliating treatment.
As we are waiting for the mask to absorb, we don’t want to waste time or that precious honey that is left over on your spoon; we are going to apply that residue on the face to naturally exfoliate the skin. Please, make sure you don’t apply too much honey, as it will make it too hard to control the motions of your fingers. Start with a tiny amount and add more if needed. Honey is perfect for removing dead cells, but the secret is in the kneading and patting motions to actually lift the underlying facial tissue for the ultimate result. To aid detoxification, always try to move your lymph up and away from the centre of your face. This treatment suits every skin type as long as you don’t overdo it and cause overstimulation and greasing. It’s the perfect treat for oily and acne-prone skin, as honey has anti-inflammatory properties that will help you to clear your skin.
When the honey turns grey and loses its stickiness, it’s time to wash
When you continue making these motions for a long enough time, you will start to notice how it doesn’t feel sticky anymore and has changed colour. If your skin appears to have a nice rosy colour, it means you have stimulated your skin enough and it’s time to wash your face and hair.
Avoid washing your face directly in the shower
Don’t rush into the shower to wash your hair; I strongly recommend to wash it in a sink first, using a soft towel if needed. By washing your hair in a shower, you can put more pressure on the already stimulated skin and cause redness, which can cause dilated blood vessels.
After the shower, I use my New Radiance Face Serum, by Snowberry. This is the only product I’ve tried from this company and I really enjoy it. The texture is very light and the product absorbs immediately, leaving the skin bright and soft.
As usual, I finish off with my Colour-Smart Day Moisturiser with SPF 30, by Waso Shiseido.
Go CoCo LoCo for your smooth hair
After I towel dry my hair, I like to apply a coconut spritz by Lee Stafford to boost hydration and prevent my hair from knotting. I’ve been using this product for a while now, and it has a proud place on my bathroom shelf. It makes my hair so easy to brush and leaves it silky and smooth.
All these products and ingredients are very affordable and easy to use; all you need is time and a little bit of patience. Nothing changes overnight, but if you continue to use these beneficial products on your skin and hair, the noticeable results won’t take too long to surprise you.
