Green Oasis Sawasdee Village
Sawasdee Village Phuket Review. On our last trip to Thailand, we were celebrating our second wedding anniversary. What could be better than a romantic getaway and some spa treatments for such an occasion?
From my words, you might think that we are not very creative when it comes to celebrations, as all our important dates include some form of pampering. I find it so romantic to be able to escape reality together and do something good for your body and soul.
A spa is a perfect place for it
This time I was craving something different. Thailand is a very exotic country, so I wanted to spend this day somewhere cultural. While browsing the internet, I found an article on the best boutique hotels in Phuket. Our choice fell on Sawasdee Village Phuket. Described as a real Thailand oasis in the heart of Kata Beach. We packed what we needed for the next two days and made our way there.
When you arrive at the main entrance, it is not apparent what is beyond the hotel’s walls. The place is hidden away off a busy street in Kata Beach. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I entered and realised how big and how fantastic the resort was!
The so-called village is very green and beautiful. When you are relaxing by the main pool, or chilling on the daybed, it’s effortless to forget that you are situated in one of the busiest parts of Phuket.
I fell in love with the detailed design of the resort. A lot of greenery and a fantastic smell in the air immediately puts you in a relaxed mood. The place was busy but it didn’t feel crowded which is essential when you are trying to unwind and enjoy yourself.
We were welcomed with a refreshing drink and were taken to our room. Initially, we were put into a place right next to the kid’s pool, which is fine with me most of the time. This time we wanted to enjoy our baby-free time somewhere more private, so we requested to swap rooms. Our request was handled right away, and we were moved into a more private place on the other side of the complex.
Accommodation ranges from studios to villas. As it was only two of us, we had just enough space in our little cosy room. Once we were all set, we started to make a plan for the night. Our next stop was a Baray Spa which is a part of the Sawasdee Village resort. While slowly making our way to the spa we were exploring the facilities of the resort at the same time.
Every corner Sawasdee Village Phuket is a masterpiece!
The place was well maintained and clean. The walk took a bit longer as we had to stop and admire the beauty of our surroundings. We also had to stop by the pool for a swim and some drinks at the pool bar. Have you tried fruit shakes mixed with rum in the actual coconut? If you haven’t, you are missing out! Well, we only had four. Each!
When we finally got to the spa two hours later (blame the shakes) we had to choose our treatment and make a booking. We were introduced to the new promotion for couples that included a three and a half hour treatment including an additional dinner at their Thai cousin restaurant. After we chose our set menus and finalised times we went to our room to get some rest and get ready for the second part of our anniversary celebration.
When we arrived at the spa, we were kindly welcomed back and been asked to fill in the forms. Filling in your information and requests is a standard procedure at any resort. I went for an aromatherapy massage, and my husband asked for a traditional Thai massage. Then, we were introduced to our therapists and were taken to our treatment room. The room was very spacious and styled in a manner of old kings and queens which perfectly reflected the theme of our treatment “The Royal Thai package.”
The treatment included a herbal steam room, body scrub, body wrap, a bubble bath followed by the massage and a facial. Firstly, we had a shower then got our feet soaked. I noticed if you do these simple things first it straight away puts you in a right mood and makes you feel fresh and more confident before making a personal connection with your therapist.
After this, we used the traditional steam room. We were recommended to alternate with a cold shower. Did you know that exposure to steam causes a widening of your blood vessels which increase the blood flow and improves circulation? To help to flush out the waste out of your body, it’s recommended to alternate the steam room with a cold shower or a bath.
After the steam room, we were ready for our body scrubs. I noticed that all the ingredients were as natural as they can get. I can imagine they have tried to keep it as simple but as effective as royals would do back in the day. We were gently scrubbed with turmeric powder and then wrapped in a milky turmeric lotion.
I love turmeric!
Turmeric is a great natural ingredient to use in your body scrubs. With regular use, it brightens the skin, reduces the appearance of stretch marks and acne. Adding the milk helps to soften the skin and has anti-ageing benefits.
At the stage when our wraps were applied, I was already drifting off to sleep. When we were woken up, we took a quick shower and were invited to take a bubble bath. The bath was covered with rose petals, and we had complimentary snacks with tea waiting for us. Having a room for ourselves for 20 min while having a bath was a nice romantic break. Also, it was a first time I ever been in a tub this big, so it was cool to imagine what was it like for Thai royals back in the days.
Our massages were followed by natural facials. The highlight of this treatment was a sliced cucumber applied on my face as a face mask. I’ve never tried it myself before, but I remember my mum telling me stories how this was a standard procedure for many women back in the day and probably still is for some!
My husband had the best Thai massage that he had ever experienced, where I wasn’t so sure about mine. I didn’t feel like my therapist was really in the moment while massaging me. I’m susceptible to this kind of thing and have very high standards when it comes to beauty therapy. Even though I wasn’t happy with my therapist 100%, it didn’t affect the result of the whole treatment, and we left the room feeling relaxed and pampered.
We ended our night at their restaurant where we enjoyed a three-course set menu that was prepared for us in advance. The food was good but very traditional, which is not my favourite. I can appreciate Thai food now and then, but I am not a big fan of having it on a daily basis. So if you are really into Thai cuisine, you would probably enjoy it more than me. The restaurant was almost empty which was very handy for us as we had it all for ourselves. Can it get more romantic than this?
I Wouldn’t Mind Staying at Sawasdee Phuket Again
I would rate my overall spa experience here as an 8/10. The place itself is worth a visit, but it wouldn’t make it to my list of spas that I want to visit again.
The resort itself left very lovely feelings in my memories, and I’d probably want to come back and book one of those villas for a more extended stay. You can enter the pool right from the front door of your villa which I thought was pretty cool.
