I have always been a girl who believed in the power of simple home care for yourself. When it comes down to it, simple, inexpensive habits are very easy to follow and can make a significant impact on your wellbeing and appearance. Over the last couple of years I have been sharing with my followers on Instagram some occasional wellbeing hacks, and I know that some of you enjoyed them. I have decided to put them all together in one list for you to quickly find them all whenever you need it. You don’t have to do all these things at the same time. What I find that some things work for me better than others at some particular period of my life. Then I switch it up and try something new. Find what works for you. Keep it fun. Enjoy!
ALWAYS START YOUR DAY WITH A GLASS OF WATER
Drinking a glass of water on an empty stomach first thing in the mornings helps to flush out harmful toxins. Leaving your body refreshed.
Water is recommended to be a warm temperature to decrease free radical activity in the body and improve digestive health.
You can get creative with your morning ritual by using one of these following options:
WATER WITH LEMON
Lemon water aids digestion detoxifies the liver, speeds up your metabolism, relieves heartburn, reduces inflammation and many more.
Just add lemon in water. Drink first thing in the morning and during the day.
WATER WITH APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
Taking a glass of water with apple cider vinegar in the morning is another popular option. ACV can help to lower blood sugar levels, helps to prevent you from overeating, anti-inflammatory and much more. You can find full information on this in one of my previous articles.
Don’t be fooled by the simplicity of this drink and always think – more is less. The recommended dosage is one tablespoon of ACV on one glass of water. Using a high-quality ACV with the mother is essential. The mother only can be found in unprocessed and unfiltered vinegar.
WATER WITH COCONUT CIDER VINEGAR
Coconut cider vinegar is similar to apple cider vinegar but contains a more impressive nutritional profile. Just make sure you get coconut vinegar made from the coconut sap, which plays the same vital role as «the mother» in ACV. Coconut cider vinegar packed with good stuff from amino acids and vitamins, fibre and natural probiotics.
Currently, coconut cider vinegar is a part of my morning routine. I just add one tablespoon of CCV into the glass of water and drink it first thing in the morning.
FIND YOUR EATABLE BEAUTY OIL
Some oils have a lot of benefits for our bodies when used in cooking, and some can be extremely beneficial when eaten straight from the jar first thing in the morning. My choice is:
Coconut oil is my favourite option as its very safe and doesn’t taste bad. It has a high level of anti-oxidants and helps to fight bacteria. It is also known to help assist in weight loss. Take one tablespoon of raw organic coconut oil on an empty stomach. Can take another spoon during the day if you feel hungry but don’t want to snack. Its recommended eating coconut oil combined with ACV. A full article on this you can read in one of my previous posts.
DRINK SMART FLUIDS
I don’t need to remind you how important is to drink water during the day and how dehydration affects our mind and bodies. I also understand how boring sometimes is to drink just plain water, and this is when you can turn on your imagination to create healthy drinking tonics that taste good and also good for your body. Here are just some options that I personally love, and that can help you easily say goodbye to supermarket drinks.
HOMEMADE ICED TEA
The recipe is easy: choose your ingredients, put them together in one jar and add hot water. Then keep it in the fridge and serve with ice when needed.
My favourite variations:
Green tea with sliced apple and goji berries
Green tea with lemon and mint
Green tea with lemon and ginger
Chamomile tea with vanilla and chia seeds
Green tea with lemon and basil
Green tea with coconut water and lime
HOMEMADE APPLE CIDER
Homemade apple cider is currently my favourite homemade drink. In Thailand, the weather is pretty hot and humid all the time, and I often feel like something refreshing to drink. It’s super easy to make and fun to drink.
Add one tablespoon of ACV with the mother to one glass of sparkling mineral water. Add sliced fresh apple and ice. That’s it! Enjoy.
Next, we are moving from the kitchen into the bathroom, where I have some routines going as well.
DRY BRUSH YOUR BODY
I’ve started dry brushing my body about two years ago and never looked back. Dry brushing your body before a shower helps to stimulate the normal lumpish flow and helps your body to detoxify itself. It’s a pure and natural way to exfoliate your skin. By dry brushing your skin you will help to increase circulation and reduce the appearance of cellulite.
It’s recommended to start with your feet and move towards your chest. Don’t be too harsh but also don’t be afraid to go over the same area several times until you see a lovely rose colour. Having a warm shower after dry brushing is very refreshing and will put you in a good mood for the whole day.
LOVE YOUR HAIR OILS
Using a hair mask once or twice a week is common sense for pretty much every girl nowadays. Not many realise that hair still needs more hydration and protection most of the time. I got in a good habit of sleeping with oil rubbed in my hair whenever I know that I will be washing my hair the next day. Oils help to moisturise and nourish your hair. Here are some of my go-to oils for healthy hair and scalp:
Smells good, easy to wash off and can be used as a leave on conditioner.
ROSEMARY AND VANILLA HAIR OIL BY LEMONGRASS HOUSE
This is the new favourite product that I’ve been using recently as sleep in conditioner for my hair. Rosemary stimulates hair growth and is known to be a very effective hair loss treatment. It smells divine and leaves my hair silky and soft the next day.
BURDOCK ROOT OIL WITH RED PEPPER
This will be your saviour if you are suffering from hair loss or simply want to grow your hair faster. You can leave it on for tonight but make sure not rub your eyes as red pepper can sting. Consistency is the key.
USE A PAPER TOWEL WHEN DRYING YOUR FACE
This is a new habit I have adopted recently that is really recommended for someone with problematic skin. This trick will help you to keep the bacteria off the face without over drying it. Use dabbing motions to slightly absorb the water off your face and finish it off by applying your moisturiser.
DO NOT WASH YOUR FACE IN THE SHOWER
I keep telling this to everyone. Protect your face from the hot water pressure to avoid damaging the skin’s fragile vessels and capillaries.
And the last but not least…
I think what I have figured out just recently is that in sports, it’s important to find something that suits your personality and fits your lifestyle. No matter how much you want to lose weight or tone your body if, you don’t enjoy going to that particular facility or you don’t enjoy the company of people you are training with you won’t get as far as you want. Exercising must be fun and enjoyable even if you are struggling to get fit. The thought of going to training must not feel like torture. You should feel confident and welcomed at the facility, and the people around you must be your motivation, not the opposite.
If you are struggling at the current fitness place or mindlessly lifting bars at the gym ask yourself if this is something that you are really happy with 100% or is it worth to try yourself in something else. There is a huge variety of fitness classes you can join nowadays from kickboxing to SUP yoga and pilates. When you find something that suits YOU and speaks to your soul, then you will achieve results that you want in no time while having fun.
