Spending a long sunny day at a beautiful beach club is one of our favourite activities to do here in Phuket! After almost a year of living here and exploring, I have finally come up with my own list of the best beach clubs on the island.
As we are travelling as a family, I base my judgments on the comfort, safety and the quality of their services. We are people who like to sip cocktails by the pool, have a good meal, listen to some good music, and if we bring kids with us, then we want to feel welcome and safe.
There are ten great beach clubs in Phuket that we had a chance to visit and some of them are better than others for various reasons that you wouldn’t realise if you were only here for a short time. I thought instead of making a short list of the top five, I would list all of them starting from our favourite ones moving down towards the least favourite places based on our experience. The reason why I want to list them all, is they all have something that might suit different types of travellers, so I didn’t want to discriminate. I hope you find the right one for YOU. Let’s get started.
Located on the beautiful Layan beach – Dream Beach Club is our number one venue to visit in Phuket. The place has everything you need for a great time with the family or a group of friends. What I like about the Dream as a venue is that it is very spacious and the pool is divided into two zones (one for adults and one for children). If you are coming here with little ones, then it is a guaranteed guilt-free time if you are coming during the day to enjoy some sun by the pool.
Dream Beach has got one of the best restaurants out of all beach clubs. Every dish is nicely presented and beautifully cooked. They are famous for their sangria and every time we have visited there has been a live DJ and his music choices have always been on point! Their beach is always clean and tidy, which is another crucial factor for me. Just recently Dream Beach Club launched a new party venue which works as a rooftop bar where they hold great parties hosted by international and local DJs. Check out their website to find out more information, and I will most likely see you there!
Catch Beach Club is probably the most famous and luxurious beach club on the island. Its situated on Bang Tao beach and offers an infinity edge pool and an open-air restaurant with the view. The place is trendy amongst expats and out-going locals.
Catch’s pool area is quite secluded and not big which feels rather private and relaxing. KIDS ARE NOT ALLOWED in the pool, that’s why this place would suit more for a romantic outing with your spouse or for a special celebration with a group of friends. The outstanding food menu and delicious Aperol would make an excellent companion for your getaway. If you are a lover of a good time with the high-quality service, then you should check them out.
3. Cafe Del Mar
Cafe Del Mar is famous around the world for its stylish designs and chilled vibes. The Phuket franchise not so long ago had moved to Kamala beach, so the venue is still beautiful and new. This beach club attracts different crowds but is still family-friendly, so don’t hesitate to bring your kids along with you.
Cafe Del Mar is also famous for their all-day pool parties, so make sure you check out their event calendar before planning your visit. On a busy day, the pool can get quite crowded with people which only adds to the lively festive atmosphere of the place. I think its definitely a must visit spot in Phuket, so grab your most stylish bikini and a camera, as I’m sure you are going to snap some Insta-worthy pics!
Thai operated venue is a perfect getaway from the hectic life of the island. It’s located on Bang Tao beach right by the water. This beach club doesn’t have a pool which makes it a perfect brunch location with kids on a day when you don’t want to get into any water activities. Even if you decide to swim in the sea, the venue has some comfy looking day beds and towels available for rent.
My favourite part about this place is location and its gorgeous views. Another great thing is that they have a nice outdoor playground for kids to play while you can enjoy your meal. The only downside for me is that their kitchen mostly offers Thai food and some basic finger food, which, I am not a big fan of. I prefer more European cuisine with some vegan options, but if you don’t have any specific dietary requirements and enjoy Thai food, you would be able to find something you like.
Baba Beach Club is another luxury venue situated on Natai beach which is 20 minutes north of Phuket International Airport. This beach club is a part of the exclusive luxury beach club hotel & private residences, so when you entered the premises, the whole resort feels very secluded and quiet.
The pool and restaurant area are open to the public, so if you are feeling up to a little road trip outside Phuket, it would be worth a visit. From my experience, the place looks even better than what you see on their social media. It would make a great getaway location, but I don’t think its that convenient for just a family day out.
Xana Beach Club is another pool venue on Bang Tao beach. Its situated right in front of Angsana Laguna Phuket which makes the place almost always busy. Their location makes it a popular choice for families that stay at the resort, which means the pool usually is always packed with kids.
The best part of this beach club is their infinity pool with some beautiful views, and on a good day, the place does look lovely! In my opinion, though, the place is a little overrated and doesn’t justify their minimum spend price. It did feel like they need to step up in their cooking game and maintain the venue more often to give their clients that promised stylish experience.
If you are staying in Patong, then this beach club would be very convenient for you as its situated right in the hottest spot of Phuket island. Kudo is one of the most popular and trendy beach clubs in Phuket, all thanks to its location and a never-ending list of party events.
If you are a solo-traveller, young couple or you are travelling with a group of friends that like to have fun times at the beach, drinking cocktails and meeting new people then this destination is for you. I don’t see Patong as a location suitable for a day out with my two-year-old, so that’s why this beach club doesn’t make it to the top of my favourite go-to places on the island.
8. M Beach Club
M Beach Club is the latest addition to the list of beach clubs in Phuket. Its located on Mai Khao beach which is the closest beach to the airport. I quite enjoyed their sophisticated yet straightforward venue and felt very welcomed by their stuff.
The place is very new, so they still have some bits and pieces to throw together. They don’t have a pool, but if you fancy a swim in the Andaman sea, they offer outside shower and towels. Their table settings are, and the whole atmosphere is very relaxing. I especially liked it when they brought out our fruit shakes with paper straws, which tells me that the company is forward thinking and cares about the environment.
Coast Beach Club is a beautiful venue located on Karon beach and integral to the Centara Grand Beach Phuket. It wasn’t that easy to find the place. You have to find the resort first and then walk to the beach club which makes it a bit confusing if you have never been there before.
Apart from the stunning setting, we didn’t find it that special. I think its a similar situation, as with Xana and Baba Beach Clubs. From my experience, when beach clubs belong or a part of resorts, it lowers their attention to you as a client as they are not in need of new customers, which makes their service a lot less attentive and welcoming.
We still had a lovely sunny afternoon there, so if you are in that area, it would be worth going for a drink and check out the place for yourself.
Paradise beach club is situated about five kilometres southwest of Patong. The place is more like a secluded beach, and you have to pay a fee to enter. From what I can remember when you drive to the location you park your car and then with the rest of the crowd you have to wait for the taxi rickshaw to come and drive you down to the beach through a narrow winding road.
This location is famous for their open-aired parties and quite popular among young travellers. I have only ranked this last because of our particular tastes and needs with travelling with a young child, and I am sure that a young couple without kids would list it much higher.
There are a good variety of water activities and a couple of bar/restaurants available on the shore to keep you entertained, so if you are feeling adventurous, you might want to check it out.
